Kimono Sleeve Fashion

The kimono sleeve came into fashion for ‘Western’ women’s clothing towards the tail end of the 1940’s when the exaggerated shoulders which had previously been fashionable began to evolve into a more natural silhouette. As women’s fashion entered into the 1950’s, the fashionable silhouette for shoulders continued to move away from the large padded ‘Power’ look of the 1930’s/40’s towards the extreme opposite. A trend for petite and slopping shoulders emerged, alongside the nipped in waists, waspy hips and doll-like everything else, as a reflection of the demure and ultra-feminine stereotype to which society largely expected women to adhere. The kimono sleeve often fitted the bill for this look, as its construction method emphasises a continuous line between the neck and arm, subduing rather than highlighting the shoulder.

The kimono sleeve style became incredibly popular throughout the 1950’s and into the early 1960’s. Garments and sewing patterns featured a variety of lengths of kimono or grown-on sleeves, from the tiniest cap sleeve variation, to ¾ lengths and longer, with and without the underarm gusset; and as you can see by these images certainly looked a million miles from what many would imagine a garment with ‘kimono sleeves’ to look like!

Lady Gaga's meat dress on display

It is a well-known fact that Lady Gaga makes sure to stand out as much as she can. With her eccentric clothes and bestselling albums, the singer tries to dazzle year after year. Upon thinking about her most “interesting” choices of clothing, the meat dress definitely stands out. Said dress has been preserved and presented once again to the public at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. There the dress which was worn by the famous singer at the MTV Video Music Awards in September was displayed along with her meet boots.

Hall of Fame chief curator Jim Henke presented the way in which the articles of clothing were kept for the MTV News: "It's going to be in a case and we are putting some canisters in there to control the humidity, and then we have this other canister that soaks up the glutens. But it's in a sealed case and we have the gels to control the environment in there."

The dress that travelled around the world was joined by the boots after the event and was sealed in a dry storage with a chemical preservation process. Henke declared they had worked together with a taxidermist in order to handle the articles correctly and set the ensemble on a dress form while it was still wet. The famous dress was created by designer Franc Fernandez and stylist Nicola Formichetti, and later worn by the singer when she accepted her video of the year award for the song „Bad Romance.”

Considering the fact the boots and dress had turned brown after the preservation process they needed a paint job to bring back their original tartare tones.

Dolce & Gabbana Rose Max wedge shoe

dolce-e-gabbana-zeppe-fiorate

How does this year to resist the charm of wedges, Dolce & Gabbana? It seems that even the two big Sicilian designers have made attempt to hot weather that we’ve seen from pink used by many high fashion designers for their creations. On the maxi-wedges, D & G, pink with floral patterns with braids along the para that complete the romantic idea of these models are among the most beautiful proposed for spring/summer 2011, don’t you agree?

We have already seen some of the models of wedges that Dolce & Gabbana wanted to accomplish for the spring/summer 2011 and we know that they are all colourful and terribly cool, as several of the collections devoted to the beautiful season.

Pink then seems to be the colour of the year! I like these romantic wedges sculptural Dolce & Gabbana?

Emma Stone Goes Back to Red

Emma Stone Goes Back to Red Red, Blonde and now red again. Someone's confused!

Emma Stone must have been sick of being called Lindsay Lohan 2.0, so she’s ditched the blonde hair and went back to her signature red.

Emma showed off her new hair color during a preview of her latest movie, The Help.

The only reason she even ditched her red hair was for her role as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man.

The funny thing is that unlike Lindsay, Emma is actually a natural blonde and colors it to be a red.

When she originally went to blonde she said, "My natural hair is blonde, so it's kind of nice," Stone told MTV. "I looked in the mirror and said, 'Oh my god, it's me again! It's been so long!'"

Emma looks good as both a blonde and a brunette. What color do you dig on Emma? Blonde or red?

Fashion Fails at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Fashion Fails at the 2011 MTV Movie AwardsTo every celeb that’s dressed well on the red carpet, there are about two others that are dressed disastrously. Not everyone’s stylist has great taste!

Here are my top 3 fashion disasters from the 2011 MTV Movie Awards red carpet.

Amanda Bynes- This is such a tragedy! Amanda is wearing three hot labels, but the three labels together are just a big disaster. The Herve Leger dress was hot, but matched with those green Christian Louboutins landed her on the worst dressed list. A Taupe dress, Fringed Green shoes and a Black clutch together is clearly a recipe for disaster.

Elle Fanning- As much as I am a big fan of the floral trend, Elle Fanning overdid it with the dress and the shoes. The Dolce&Gabbana dress was cute and age appropriate, but the second she put those shoes on, she killed the outfit. The two separately were hot, but should have not been paired together.

Jessica Szohr- I’m convinced Jessica Szohr got ready in the dark, because not only was her dress a disaster, but her hair was equally a mess. Jessica was wearing a jumper from Alice + Olivia and it did not do her any justice. She looked like a hot mess that should have just stayed home.

Kate Middleton Dazzles in Jenny Packham Gown

Kate Middleton Dazzles in Jenny Packham GownJust rub it in Kate, rub it in! You have a fabulous life, we get it!

Kate Middleton and Prince William made their first “official” engagement since they became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. You know, because the first three times wasn’t official enough.

Kate looked so beautiful in a pink sequined Jenny Packham dress. The British designer better be ready to make A LOT of those gowns because chances are she’s already bombarded with calls for the dress.

Whatever Kate wears somehow sells out in stores within hours. Ladies & Gentlemen, that’s the power of Kate Middleton!

Yesterday, Kate was seen shopping in London. Even though she was escorted with security, she carried her own shopping bags because she’s the humble and down to earth princess that we all love.

Prince William wore a black tux and looked dapper next to Kate at ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) 10th Anniversary gala at Perk's Field in London.

What did you guys think of Kate’s dress?

Recapt From The 2011 Glamour Awards

Recapt From The 2011 Glamour AwardsLast night, The Glamour Women of the Year Awards took place in London.

This is an award’s show where British women you probably have never heard of are bestowed with glamorous honors like, “Woman of Tomorrow” and “Sportswoman of the Year.”

However, there are some international names that you will recognize that took home titles last night.

Kim Kardashian was named Entrepreneur of the Year. Regardless of what you think about her, you can’t deny that Kim K has her name on EVERYTHING. QuickTrim, Sketchers Shape ups, Dash stores, every show on E!, a cupcake at Famous Cupcakes, Midori Liqueur, and that salad at Carl’s Jr. (I would go on but I’m running out of space).

The Accessory Designer of the Year award was given to Victoria Beckham. I had no idea that Posh “designs” accessories, but since most celebs do nowadays (i.e. Mariah Carey, Kelly Rowland, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, obviously Kim Kardashian) I figured sure, why not?

Adele took home the UK Solo Artist of the Year award. Duh. Despite Adele’s popularity everywhere, here in the US, we still pretend like she’s one of those artists we generously plucked from UK indie obscurity. C’mon, everyone who shops at Urban Outfitters thinks they “discovered” Adele like 2 years ago.

Lastly, everyone’s third-favorite Twilight star (third only to RPatz and Taylor Lautner) Kristen Stewart presented an award at the ceremony. She presented the award for “Man of the Year” to actor Garrett Hedlund. I could make a Kristen-Stewart-should-win-the-man-of-the-year-award-because-she-acts-like-a-dude joke, but I’m not going to…and it’s not because I’m jealous of her.

Get Khloe Kardashian's Python Ring!

Get Khloe Kardashian's Python Ring!Khloe Kardashian attended the Forbes Celebrity 100 Event in Hollywood last night sporting some seriously hot bling…and no I’m not talking about her gigantic engagement ring.

She was wearing a Python Wrap cuff and the Python Wrap ring by Melinda Maria!

Python jewels are so hot and spice up plain outfits. Khloe was sporting a simple black dress, but the in your face gold jewelry made it stand out.

You can get the Melinda black Python wrap ring, which is 18K Gold Plated with Black Onyx Cz for $168 from here and the Python Wrap cuff for $298 from here.

Happy shopping!

Kate Middleton's Derby Style

Kate Middleton's Derby StyleKate Middleton aka the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out with her hubby over to weekend to attend Saturday's Epsom Derby, part of "Derby Day" in Epsom, England.

Kate looked classy as usual wearing a white Joseph tweed jacket on top of a dress in the same color by her favorite designer Reiss.

She was also sporting a taupe colored fascinator(love that word) from Whiteleys.

Kate had two dates to the royal affair. She was joined by her husband Prince William, who was wearing a grey tux with a top hat, and Prince Harry aka Dupree.

Kate looks like she’s having so much fun with her new title. She’s always sporting such a big smile and looks so flawless

But why wouldn’t she have a big smile? She went from commoner to a princess overnight!

Kate and William are gearing up for their North American tour. The couple will first touch down in Canada and make their way to sunny Calfornia. Wonder what they have planned for their trip to Cali? Do you guys think Catherine will dress differently just because she’s in California?

Alessandra Ambrosio and Miranda Kerr Show Off Skin at 2011 CFDA Awards

Alessandra Ambrosio and Miranda Kerr Show Off Skin at 2011 CFDA Awards Victoria’s Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio and Miranda Kerr attended the 2011 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards in NYC Monday night.

The two ladies had to be my top two picks for best dressed of the night! They were both wearing such sexy dresses and of course everything looks 5 times better on them because, well they’re models!

Miranda was decked out in head to toe black with a touch of gold. She was wearing a Michael Kors floor length sarong skirt with a high slit and had matched it with a sexy bodysuit. Once you pick your chin up from the floor we can move on to Alessandra Ambrosio.

The Brazilian hottie was definitely the one person that stood out at the Award show. She was wearing a red gown by Prabal Gurung.

“Omg @prabalgurung just won best new designer of the year!!! I feel so lucky to be chosen to wear his amazing dress!!! Love him!!” Alessandra tweeted.

Best designer indeed! She looked flawless. The dress was very sexy, but she didn’t make it look trashy, which is important when wearing such a sexy dress.

The event recognizes designers, icons, and journalists for their contributions to the fashion industry.

Summer Weight Loss Tips From J. Lo's Trainer

Summer Weight Loss Tips From J. Lo's Trainer If you haven’t gotten your ideal bikini body by now, it’s time to whip yourself into shape. My ideal bikini body is a saggy butt and flabby arms, so I’m good.

But for those of you with standards, who don’t want to scare small children at the beach, Hollyscoop has some workout tips from Celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson.

The personal trainer of Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Gwyneth Paltrow has sculpted more bodies than Michelangelo.

While training Paltrow, Anderson said she heated things up: “I made the space very hot and had her do an hour and forty minutes. She likes to eat.”

Way to out her, Anderson! But it’s nice to know you can still stuff your face and have a body like Gwyneth’s. Tracy says when it came to dieting, Paltrow “will not.”

“I did have her watch what she ate a little bit. She is an amazing chef and loves to cook,” Anderson told Hollyscoop.

Paltrow told us, “It was hard. I don’t have the type of brain that can diet if she tells me “Don’t eat carbs” I will gain ten pounds. I like to do extra cardio and be able to eat pasta, wine, cheese, friends and whatever.”

So it’s either eat what you want and workout in a sauna for an hour and forty minutes, or watch your diet. And speaking of diets, Anderson says a lot of her celeb clients are going ga-ga for her Baby Food Diet.

“I developed a cleanse where you can still eat and it’s a lot of puree foods. I was very careful about the foods I chose to put in it. When you do these liquid cleanses I felt a responsibility to come up with something. I wanted something where you can eliminate toxicity, break bad habits but still have your digestive system going. That is when the baby food cleanse was born. You get to eat all day, these little puree things and the chocolate pudding I did is pretty killer.”

Hmm, I wonder how a Double-Double tastes pureed. While it might help you lose weight, Anderson says it’s not permanent: “Liquid cleanses do help you lose weight, but you will gain more the next week,” Anderson says.

Kim Kardashian Kills a Gucci Dress

Kim Kardashian Kills a Gucci Dress The Gucci spring 2011 collection was so popular that almost every celeb with any sort of fashion sense has been spotted sporting the bold colored two toned dresses.

Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Wilde, Jennifer Hudson and the latest being Kim Kardashian have sported the hot outfit.

Kim wore the purple/orange dress yesterday during the launch of her fragrance in London.

As much as I am a HUGE fan of the dress, it looks TERRIBLE on Kim. My admiration for Kim's style is no secret, so it saddens me that her stylist would let her leave the room wearing an outfit that looked that bad.

The dress was clearly not made for Kim's curves or it was just too small on her because that middle bulge looks horrible.

She looked like she was uncomfortable in the dress and it might have been because she was unable to breath because her belt was so tight.

I'm sure this was a one off situation and we won't see Kim wearing such unflattering outfits again.

Rebecca Romijn Covers Vegas Magazine

Rebecca Romijn Covers Vegas MagazineRebecca Romijn graces the cover of Vegas magazine and chats about Vegas, her husband Jerry O’Connell, being a mom, and getting in shape.

Romijn, best known for portraying Mystique in several of the X-Men films, talked about her next upcoming film is Good Deeds, where she stars opposite Tyler Perry.

The former model looks gorgeous on the cover of the magazine in a Tom Ford Grapefruit tulle and georgette dress though she spends most of her time wearing what she describes as “mom flats.”

On being a mom, “Working all day on a TV set is so much more relaxing than being home and being Mommy. I started getting jealous of Jerry going off and doing The Defenders every day.”

Her husband co-stars in The Defenders, a drama about attorneys in Las Vegas, which is also the city where Rebecca and Jerry first met.

“My favorite Vegas story is the one where I met Jerry…we were at the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel. I was at my cabana and he was at a nearby cabana. He did a very good job of coming over and talking to me.”

Married and a couple kids later the actress tells the magazine how she gets her post baby body back in shape. “I started doing Bikram yoga, and I highly recommend it to any mother who wants to shock her body back into shape.”

Short Dresses Rule the Red Carpet at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Short Dresses Rule the Red Carpet at the 2011 MTV Movie AwardsThe MTV Movie Awards are all about having fun and that’s what the celebs did on the red carpet. All the ladies were showing off leg in short dresses at the Movie Awards.

Just because they weren’t wearing long gowns, didn’t mean their dresses were not fancy. Ladies like Leighton Meester and Kristen Stewart were all wearing blinged out short dresses.

You can’t go wrong with showing leg and shining while doing it!

Leighton Meester really impressed me on the red carpet. She used to always dress to impress, but in recent months it’s been one fashion disaster after the other. She must have heard about my ongoing complaints because she showed up to the awards rocking this hot short Balmain number.

Balmain also dressed Kristen Stewart and for once I can say, Kristen was my fave of the night. Her red Balmain number was a great fit for Kristen because she’s an edgy girl and the dress was very suitable for a tomboyish/edgy girl.

Amber Lancaster keeps on impressing me on the red carpet! She must have an amazing stylist because she’s always changing up her look and looking fabulous. She was almost unrecognizable at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards sporting a really short sequined dress.

Brooklyn Decker was wearing a short No. 21 dress, Walter Steiger heels and a House of Lavande ring. Even though she was showing off leg, it seemed like the dress was choking her. We wouldn’t judge if she opted to show off some cleavage. The length of the dress was perfect and the color was hot, but the top part was a bit too closed off.

Who do you guys think looked the hottest on the carpet at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards?

TOMs Launches New Eyewear Collection

TOMs Launches New Eyewear CollectionTom’s shoes, the brilliant one-for-one model where hipsters can do something philanthropic by purchasing cool canvas shoes, has just moved onto it’s next chapter: eyewear.

Tom’s founder Blake Mycoskie revealed the new endeavor, Toms Glasses. The sunglasses come in three styles including wayfarer-like frames, aviators, and oversized “Jackie O” glasses.

All styles start at $135. Each pair of glasses features three hand painted stripes that are supposed to represent you, the person you’re helping, and Toms connecting the two.

The company gave away a million shoes last year and plans for the eyewear chapter is similar. For every pair of glasses bought online or at TOMS retail partners, “someone will receive either medical help for severe eye disease, glasses to improve eyesight, or sight-saving surgery.”

Mycoskie says, “I want people to know what they’re giving, in a one-for-one way, with every purchase…From this day forward, Toms will no longer be a shoe company, it will be a one-for-one company.”

Fashion meets philanthropy.

It Happened Last Night: Jen Brill in Neon Hues

Jen Brill had the bright idea while celebrating Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders' resort collections in NYC on Jun 9.

The Chanel ambassador struck a pose in a neon pink maxi dress and platform sandals. But the stylist who calls famed photographer Terry Richardson her beau really rode the technicolor trend -- she added a Christopher Kane neon green lace clutch.

Brill's equally stylish BFF Harley Viera-Newton also opted for lace but in the form of an LBD and a mini Céline cross-body bag. Both girls rocked a bold, red lip.

Why You Should Use Oil In Your Hair

shiny hair

Hesitant about using oil on your hair? Check out these pro tips. Photo: Rayan McVay, Getty Images

Rarely does one beloved beauty secret cross the breadth of so many centuries, countries, cultures and ethnicities as the use of oil on hair.

With effects that run the gamut from conditioning and adding shine to treating dandruff and stimulating strand growth, oils are truly the workhorse of hair care products.

While the nutrient-rich substance fell out of favor in recent times in part due to a general lack of knowledge of how to use it without weighing down hair, oils are now enjoying a popular resurgence as the rise of the green beauty category brings the ancient treatment back to the spotlight.

"Oils are not only incredibly beneficial to all hair types, but they have a ritualistic quality to them that many find spiritually soothing," says Horst Rechelbacher, founder of both Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients, a certified organic beauty line that is entirely based on plant ingredients.

Two oils of the moment -- argan and monoi -- are the current 'it' girls of the industry, attracting attention and fame, and dedicated legions of fans. Argan oil is the star ingredient of the ubiquitous Moroccanoil brand, and monoi takes center stage in a new line launching by Carol's Daughter.

"The romance of monoi is what hooked me first, its tradition and the process by which it is made. The second thing was its scent," says Carol's Daughter founder Lisa Price, of the oil that is created by soaking Tahitian gardenias in coconut oil. "The goal became, 'How do we prepare this so that we can marry the ancient tradition with modern-day efficacy?'"

But before you dive into the healthy hair benefits of oil, it's vital that you know how to apply it in the right way to best benefit your hair. Our tips and tricks below cover all textures and types -- and even the most baby-fine heads of hair.

Know the three types of cosmetic oils and their weight. Fatty oils like castor and shea butter have large molecular weight and sit on the surface of hair, while semi-fatty oils like sweet almond, avocado and sunflower are absorbed more readily, and work for most hair types. Dry oils like grape seed, coconut and evening primrose are the lightest, and seemingly disappear into the hair without any residue on even fine textures, says natural beauty expert Julie Gabriel, who will publish Oleotherapy: Reveal the Powerful Rejuvenation Benefits of 100 Oils for your Health, Beauty and Wellbeing in November 2011.

Always massage oil into the scalp. The most common mistake people make is that they apply oil to the ends of hair only. "Oils help regulate sebum production in the scalp much in the same way that face oils are helpful to normalize sebum production in the skin," says Gabriel. Fine hair can apply oil only to the scalp, while medium to thick types can also apply the oil to the mid-shaft and down. Coarse types can massage the oil from the scalp all the way to the ends.

The goof-proof choice for any hair type is jojoba oil. A plant that is indigenous to the southwest, jojoba is the lightest of all cosmetic oils, and absorbs weightlessly. If you have super-fine hair, you can even look for clarified jojoba, which takes it even a step lighter. "Jojoba is a liquid wax, and you can clarify it and take some of the wax out of it to make it even lighter than it already is," says Rechelbacher.

Argan oil is best for medium to thick hair. While everyone is reaching for argan these days, Rechelbacher says that the exotically fragrant oil is more suited to thicker heads of hair. "Argan is sticky, and can be hard to get out of fine hair. It's like olive oil -- you'll need to shampoo two or three times to fully rinse it out, or else you'll get build-up." Yet for richer locks, argan can strike the perfect balance of shine, scent and manageability.

To get the benefits without any weight, apply oil to dry hair. If you don't want to keep oil in your hair, try this treatment recommended by Rechelbacher. On completely dry hair, first work oil into the ends, and then slowly massage into the scalp, deeply inhaling the aromatic experience for relaxation. Gently brush hair from scalp to ends for five minutes, and allow the oil to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Then hop in the shower and wash it out. "In most cases, you won't even have to follow up with a conditioner unless you're very coarse. Your hair will feel like silk," says Rechelbacher.

Castor oil is a natural growth treatment. Castor oil is believed to stimulate and strengthen hair growth, but Gabriel says that it's too heavy to use on hair. Instead, you can apply the vegetable oil with a Q-tip to sparse eyebrows and lashes at bedtime to encourage thicker, healthier and faster growth. Think of it as nature's Latisse.

Warm oil is a fix-it for scalp problems. Since putting oil on the scalp encourages the skin to rebalance itself, adding warmth will also allow nutrients to penetrate more deeply. Gabriel says that massaging your choice of oil into the scalp is helpful for dry dandruff, non-hormonal hair loss and itchy scalps. Simply nuke a small amount of oil in the microwave, and then enjoy a soothing fingertip massage in small circles around the scalp.

How often you should use oil depends on how often you wash. Fine and oily hair types that wash daily, or close to that, can consider using an deep oil treatment weekly. Textured and coarse hair types that wash weekly or bi-weekly will likely enjoy the best results with an oil treatment applied once a month. The risk of applying oil too often is that it will build up in the scalp and weigh hair down, unless it has been shampooed sufficiently between applications.

Beware of cheapened oils. Manufacturers are notorious for flooding products with silicones and petrochemicals, and including only minute amounts of oil, says Gabriel. Be sure to read ingredient labels to confirm that you're getting the real deal -- which should be a listing of various oils. Rechelbacher and other vetted natural experts often use essential oils in their mixes, as it's a more hygienic choice that diminishes the chance of bacteria growth. The addition of seeds and antioxidants is an indication of top-notch blending that will allow the oils to perform even better.

If pregnant, don't use nut oils. Oils derived from nuts like peanuts and pine nuts can be potentially hazardous to pregnant women. "Oils from nuts go rancid the quickest, and you don't want to apply rancid oil if you're pregnant. If in doubt, smell it. If it doesn't smell right or is off, don't use it," says Rechelbacher.

It's clear that oils are well worth the effort -- but can the same be said for the clampless curling irons that are all the rage right now? StyleList investigates.

Lady Gaga Wears Dress With Her Own Face On it

Having shown everybody her breasts at the 2011 CFDA Awards Lady Gaga decided to be more modest the next day. The singer wore a simple and very decent dress featuring… her own face on it for an interview on Sirius Radio in New York.

By the way, have you heard that Gaga called Anna Wintour a “b****” by mistake (or not? Can it be just her next shocking act?). The star had been texted by Wintour after she won the coveted Fashion Icon accolade at the 2011 CFDA Award show on Monday. Thinking the message was from her friend called Anna, Gaga replied: ‘Yes, b****, we did it!” Very Gaga behavior!

Jewellery Inspired by Underwear

Sometimes designers can be inspired by strange things. For example, Vladimir Markin, a Russian jeweler, has created a collection inspired by underwear. He didn’t think long about the name for his range of unusual pieces and dubbed it simply ‘Underwear’. Not too original, really.

However, the jewellery pieces in Vladimir Markin’s collection are designed in shape of underwear items – panties, stockings, tops, bras, socks, etc – which is original. All pieces are made of precious materials and are intended to make people look at our world differently.

The designer says his Underwear collection is for bold and interesting individuals, those who are ready to stand out of the crowd. He offers us to be creative and make a clothesline in the way we want to see it. For a vamp style he suggests putting together red lingerie and black stockings. His vision of an idyllic necklace includes a few pair of men’s white socks. By combining various pieces from his collection Vladimir Markin offers us to create a necklace that is ironic and unique.

Estethica 5th Anniversary

Estethica 5th Anniversary

Estethica is celebrating its 5th Anniversary as the industry’s leading showcase of ethical fashion. Livia Firth and Harold Tillman CBE, Chairman of the British Fashion Council (BFC), hosted a celebratory evening yesterday for guests including past and present Estethica designers and industry experts at Almada, Mayfair.

Installations were curated by five of the current Estethica designers: Christopher Raeburn, Dr Noki, From Somewhere, Junky Styling and The North Circular. The Anniversary event also saw the launch of the Mayor of London’s Green Guide to Fashion. This guide is the latest addition in a series of Green Creative Industry Guides for London, which provide businesses with guidance on how to lower their carbon emissions.

Estethica was founded in 2006 showcasing 13 brands, and has gone on to support a total of 108 international designers over the past 5 years. All Estethica designers have been selected as they adhere to at least one of the three Estethica principles of fair-trade, ethical practices, organic and recycled materials and are selected for both their ethical credentials and design excellence.

The initiative is co-curated by Anna Orsini, BFC Strategic Consultant, Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci of the pioneering, up-cycling label 'From Somewhere'.

Harold Tillman CBE commented “This anniversary of Estethica marks an important milestone for the initiative and also for the fashion industry. Each season we see Estethica grow to support designers in new and exciting ways, thereby placing sustainable values at the forefront of fashion design. This is a chance to celebrate Estethica’s achievements and look forward to future ventures in promoting sustainable fashion”.

Livia Firth commented “Estethica is where it all began for me – it taught me to look at the politics and the production of fashion in a different way. With such talented designers I can only see Estethica getting bigger and better”.

Estethica has been instrumental in developing Britain’s sustainable fashion industry, and is recognised internationally as a leading designer showcase that has represented ethically aware designers from 19 countries around the world. The Green Guide to Fashion is the latest in a succession of initiatives which Estethica has supported over the past five years. Others include:

-    The introduction of a mentoring scheme for Estethica designers, with mentors Bev Malek, Susanne Tide-Frater and Yasmin Sewell

-    The launch of the sustainable clothing road map with DEFRA in 2009

-    Partnering with Yoox.com to create the first online retail space for Estethica designers

-    The first sustainable fashion show on the official schedule at London Fashion Week, in partnership with START, an initiative by The Prince’s Charities Foundation to promote and celebrate sustainable living

Estethica thanks its official sponsor, Monsoon, for their support for the ninth consecutive season.
