Why Fred Perry Polo Shirts Are Great

One of the oldest and most well respected brands in the United Kingdom and Europe itself is today the hottest fashion label among people that are less than half the age of the brand itself. Seventy year old fashion label is today the brand to be seen in and in any fashionable city around the world this season you are bound to see the young and the hip of either sex wearing Fred Perry polo shirts with their distinctive wreath logos on them.

Many consumers who are the most ardent fans of the Fred Perry brand and own a lot of the company's merchandise know very little about the origins and the interesting history of the Fred Perry label.

The brand was started out in England in the late 1940s by the famous British tennis player and three times Wimbledon champion this brand who was approached by an Australian footballer called Tibby Wegner with the idea for a simple sweat band to be worn while playing sports or during physical activities like running. This turned out to be their first joint venture together and it was a runaway success almost instantly. Very soon tennis players around the country and in a few years around the world were to be seen on tennis courts wearing sweat bands on their heads as a practical and stylish accessory.

The very first polo shirt to carry the Fred Perry laurel wreath logo came a few years later though. It was 1952 when the first slim fit polo shirt was launched to the public for the first time. It carried the now distinctive and well recognized laurel wreath logo for which this brand has become famous around the world.

Since the first polo shirts that the company made, each successive version has been as popular as the last and over the many decades that the brand has been around, Fred Perry polo shirts have become the defacto uniforms for almost every movement in the United kingdom. Various sub cultures from the mods to the rockers and even the skin heads, all adopted the simple and stylishly elegant Fred Perry polo shirt as their clothing of choice.

By the nineties the world was nothing like what it had been when the Fred Perry brand was first established but the brand still stood for traditional English quality and style like no other brand that was around.
